Tecla is an assistive device that gives people with upper-body mobility impairments the ability to fully access smart devices and technology –– at a fraction of the cost of traditional assistive devices. Tecla is designed and manufactured in Toronto, Canada by Komodo OpenLab Inc.

Meet the Founders
Mauricio Meza, CEO, runs the day-to-day business operations of Tecla. Before Tecla, he worked for over ten years as an assistive tech leader and consultant at Canada’s largest rehabilitation hospital, the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. In 2010, he completed his MBA at Ryerson University before working with Jorge to build the first Tecla product.
Jorge Silva, CTO, is known as the resident "hacker in chief." He's responsible for the product's development – both hardware and software. Jorge has been an inclusive technology researcher for over 12 years at the University of Toronto, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab Hospital and OCAD University.
Meet the Team
Lawrence Kwok, Inclusive Designer
Lawrence is a designer based in Toronto. He's worked with MakeLab, 3D Phacktory, and OCAD University. When he's not working on the industrial design or user experience of Tecla, you can find him riding his bike or reading a graphic novel.
Elise Darmanin, Marketing and Social Media
Elise manages the content, branding and messaging of Tecla. She works with e-commerce brands through her business Canupy Content. Elise is also an avid traveler and loves to Instagram all the sights.
Kaela Malozewski, Communications
Kaela manages communications and strategizes Tecla's outreach. She was the voice of hitchBOT and managed its social media channels and marketing collateral.
Mhairi Robertson, Graphic Designer
Mhairi is a graphic designer working in Toronto. She loves helping small companies and charities find their identity. When she's not designing, you can probably find her rock climbing or eating pizza while binge-watching Netflix.
Marcela Correa, Clinical and Tech Support
Marcela supports therapists and users to make sure their Tecla is set up properly, and that all the wrinkles are ironed out.
Sayyad Glassford, Quality Assurance and Production
Sayyad is responsible for assembling, testing and shipping out all Tecla products. He's an OCAD U Industrial Design graduate. Sayyad entertains himself by building and repairing bicycles.
